Ch. 1 Introduction

I lived in Chicago for about 4 years during my childhood, and thought I would choose Chicago instead of Los Angeles. Chicago belongs to the region in the Great Lakes/ Corn Belt and it is the 3rd largest city in North America. Chicago is approximately 237 sq. miles, and its population is around 2.715 million people as of 2013. A nickname Chicago is known by is “the windy city,” or "the second city." It was incorporated as a city of Illinois in 1837. Chicago is known to be passionate about sports. The city is also the start to the famous Route 66, which passes through 8 states on its way to the finish point, in Santa Monica. It is definitely a place to visit, so many amazing sculptors and places to enjoy. "The Bean" is a sculpture you must all visit at least once, as well as the BP Bridge, which are both located in the Millennium Park. Its original name is Cloud Gate, but mostly known as "The Bean" for its obvious shape. It is a public sculpture created by British artist Anish Kapoor. The BP Bridge has an amazing design and makes it easy to cross the Columbus Drive.
